Jacob Owens was as dead as a doornail, but he stood at the foot of the bed next to flickering images of rolling tanks, explosions, collapsing buildings, and the broken bodies of lifeless children being pulled from the rubble. Jet after jet screamed overhead.

Pointing at the destruction, Jacob Owens said, “You could put an end to all this.”

But the old man turned onto his side and shut his eyes. The flickering images faded, and the cacophony of war gave way to the sound of soft snores.
