Ghost Town

Walking down the familiar high street, he was surprised there were no Christmas lights.
When he reached the pub he’d spent so many Christmas Eves in, there was no chatter or laughter, just a derelict shell.
Further on, the church where he’d sung carols as a choirboy had been converted into a mosque. It was as silent as the grave.
Turning off the main road, he came to a place he knew intimately. It was now a house of multiple occupancy, but it used to be a family home where he’d opened presents under a tinsel-covered tree on Christmas mornings.

Ghost Town is my contribution to the 2025 Advent Ghosts Shared Storytelling event hosted by Loren Eaton on his excellent blog isawlightnin gfall.blogspot.com where you can discover all the spooky tales submitted over the years to Advent Ghosts.
